Pollution production&discharge coefficients and pollution load of ducks, geese, and pigeons in Guangdong Province
To assess the pollution characteristics and load of small poultry breeds such as ducks, geese, and pigeons, this study used positioning pens and metabolic cages to research and calibrate the pollution emission coefficients of three types of poultry in Guangdong Province:meat ducks, meat geese, and pigeons. The pollution load characteristics of the aforementioned three types of poultry were also evaluated. The results indicated the following pollution discharge coefficients:for water-raised white feather ducks, the coefficients were 0.9 g·piece-1(ammonia nitrogen,AN),7.6 g·piece-1(total nitrogen,TN),3.4 g·piece-1(total phosphorus,TP),and 297.1 g·piece-1(chemical oxygen demand,COD);for pen-raised Muscovy ducks, the coefficients were 3.1 g·piece-1(AN),10.3 g·piece-1(TN),3.9 g·piece-1(TP),and 390.5 g·piece-1(COD);for meat geese, the coefficients were 8.8 g·piece-1(AN),38.3 g·piece-1(TN),15.0 g·piece-1(TP),and 1 617.2 g·piece-1(COD);for pigeons, the annual average pollution coefficients were 3.6 g·piece-1(AN),37.4 g·piece-1(TN),11.9 g·piece-1(TP),and 683.7 g·piece-1(COD).The emission of four major pollutants from the three types of small poultry in the province accounted for 10.6%-24.9% of the emissions from major livestock and poultry breeds. The total pollution load from raising the three types of small poultry was significant in areas such as Zhaoqing,Maoming, and Jiangmen, while the ratio of pollution load from these poultry to that from major livestock breeds was relatively high in areas like Shantou,Zhongshan, and Chaozhou. The pollution impact from small poultry farming in Guangdong Province warrants attention.
