Research on the Development Characteristics and Path of Aquatic Products Trade between China and RCEP Countries
In recent years, the overall trade interdependence of aquatic products has been increasing between China and RCEP countries.Based on the trade data from 2013 to 2022,this paper analyzes the characteristics of the development of aquatic products trade between the two sides. The re-search finds that the scale and species of aquatic products trade have been on an upward trend.Competi-tiveness and complementarity analyses show that China's competitive advantage in aquatic products is medium, with strong complementarity with other member countries, but also with limited competi-tion.SMART model shows that tariff reductions have effectively promoted aquatic products trade between China and other RCEP members, with significant trade creation effects. The implementation of RCEP will reduce the cost of aquatic products trade, improve trade efficiency, and expand the mode of cooperation. However, market competition, the ability to adapt to RCEP rules,non-tariff barriers, and geopolitical issues also make it challenging. To promote the development of aquatic products trade with RCEP countries,China should formulate a differentiated development path based on the competitive and complementary characteristics of aquatic products, improve product competitiveness, and strengthen co-operation on complementary products.Enterprises should fully explore the dividends of RCEP,and in-crease the investment and production distribution of aquatic industry within the region.
