The term of"oneness of tea and Dhyana"refers that people pursue Zen by engaging in meditation through tea ceremonies in their daily lives,achieving a state of meditation,enlightenment,and understanding of the Zen wisdom.The forma-tion of the"oneness of tea and Dhyana"cannot be separated from the integration of tea and Zen.Later,this Buddhist term was introduced to Japan by Japanese monks who came to China to study Buddhism in the Song Dynasty,and it produced a unique charm in the development in Japan.This paper reviews the history of the development and dissemination of tea,Zen,and the practice of"oneness of tea and Dhyana"in pre-modern China and Japan,analyzes the reasons for the integration of tea and Zen,and researches the practice of the"oneness of tea and Dhyana"in pre-modern China and Japan.It is found that"oneness of tea and Dhyana"in China and Japan is not similar with profound differences in rituology,aesthetics,and religion.
