Competition and Capitalist Characteristics of Tea Industries in China and India:Review on the Book of Tea War:A History of Capitalism in China and India
Among the research circles studying global economic history, there has been a long debate on whether or not the capitalist economy only arose in the Western context. The Tea War:A History of Capitalism in China and India, written by An-drew B.Liu,demonstrates that the tea industries in late Qing China and British India from the mid-18th century to the mid-20th century were parts of the world capitalist economy.Through examining the cultivation, processing, and trading of tea in China and India, the book not only demonstrates how the tea industries in China and India participated in the global capitalist economy, but also discusses the localized characteristics and how the two major tea economies chose different paths in competition with each other.
