Textual Research on Insect Names in the Book of Song:Binfeng and Dongshan
There are different views about interpretations to insect names in the Book of Song:Binfeng and Dongshan.Com-bined with the comprehensive analysis of existing achievements and the knowledges of entomology, some new interpretations are put forward in this paper. The"zhu"in the line"the wriggling one is zhu"should be understood as silkworm larvae reared artifi-cially in mulberry field. The"yiwei"in the line"there is yiwei in the room"should be understood as sowbug and Armadillidium, such as Porcellio laevis,Porcellionides pruinosus and Armadillidium vulgare. The"xiaoxing"in the line"there is the dazzling xiaoxing"should be understood as firefly. The"guan",namely stork,in the line"the guan is chirping on the die"may be a cleri-cal error, which should refer to"he:,namely the crane. As to the"die"in the line,it might be understood as termite molehill.
