Preliminary Study on Usage of Grinders in Sichuan and Chongqing Regions During the Tang and Song Dynasties
A common type of utensils unearthed from Tang and Song Dynasty sites in Sichuan-Chongqing region(with a few found in tombs),closely resembling bowls and cups,but densely covered with jagged grinding surfaces or engraved with fine and dense shallow lines or grate scratches,is referred to as the grinders.The usage of the grinders is still inconclusive,and this paper,by exploring the usage of the grinders through archaeological materials and relevant literature,believes that the grinders are mainly used for grinding tea cakes and grinding ginger and garlic condiments.
