Introduction to American Tea Rooms in 20th Century
At the turn of 20th century,the United States experienced profound changes in many fields.Under such social backgrounds,the American tea rooms emerged,which were characterized by five aspects,including the spread from urban to ru-ral areas,women's investment and management,colonial revival and nostalgia,home-like style and simplicity,integration of tea and meals.In the first half of the 20th century,tea rooms across the United States provided women with employment,income,and social opportunities.More importantly,tea rooms provided space for women to voice their opinions.The development of tea rooms also led the prosperity of corresponding publishing industry and tea schools,and rural tea rooms played an important role in country life movement.In 1950s,with the changing business environment and the lack of internal development momentum,American tea rooms rapidly declined.
