Geopolitical Changes of the Pan-South China Sea Nickel Rim Area and China's New Energy Security Risks
Developing new energy is an important enterprise for China to address traditional energy security challenges.Nickel is the representative of strategic mineral resources, which plays an important role in the new energy in-dustry chain, but it also brings new energy security risks to China's new energy industry.Due to resource endowment,geo-politics and other reasons,China is highly dependent on the pan-South China Sea nickel rim area, stretching from Indone-sia and the Philippines at the west end, through Papua New Guinea and Australia in the middle,to New Caledonia at the East end, which derives three new energy risks related to the nickel ore and industry:the new containment in the nickel in-dustry chain by major western countries, the risk of political fluctuations in the nickel resource countries and the impact of resource nationalism on China's new energy industry chain. Therefore,it is helpful to consider the following solutions to a-void the relevant risks,so as to ensure China's new energy security:deploying in the pan-South China Sea nickel rim from an overall perspective, establishing nickel resource partners outside the pan-South China Sea rim area, and finding alterna-tive options for the nickel product in the new energy industry.
