European Studies from the Perspective of Country and Regional Studies
The disciplinary positioning of European studies involves key issues such as the scope,themes,and methods of this research field,and has always been of concern to China's re-search community on European studies.Since the beginning of this century,China's aca-demic community has attempted to position and integrate different disciplines based on Euro-pean studies,which do not belong to disciplines such as international politics,world econo-my,and European history,but encompass the methodologies used in these disciplines.This article discusses the principal fields,issues,and methods that European studies,as a typical case of country and regional studies,should explore from the perspectives of the origin of the concept of Europe,the formation of nation states and regional organizations,and the opera-tion modes.It reveals the complex relationships between regions and countries and tries to po-sition the roles of various social sciences in the field of European studies.
