Authors of popular literature during the Edo period were adept at incorporating Chinese novels into their own creations,by whom Liaozhai Studio was often used as source material and frequently adapted.Among these adapt-ations,Mimeyorisousi by Ryutei Senka exhibits traces of borrowing from Ruiyun in terms of story structure, character setting, and details.Ryutei Senka's adaptation techniques are particularly ingenious,as he expands the short story Ruiyun into a long-form"Goukan"by adding details and new characters, making the plot more complex and the characters more vivid. While Pu Songling's Ruiyun praises the platonic love between men and women, the adaptation-Mimeyorisousi presents a completely different intention, emphasizing moral education in punish-ment of vice and promotion of virtue, which aligns more closely with the literary demands of Japan.
