Does Rumors End with Wisdom or Truth?A Simulation Study on Rumor Control in Dual-Layer Coupled Online-Offline Networks
[Purpose/significance]Rumors pose serious harm to society, and controlling their dissemination is beneficial for maintain-ing social stability and public order, and reducing unnecessary panic and misunderstanding.[Method/process]This study used a coupled dual-network to visualize the social system required for rumor dissemination and employed an improved SCIR model to ex-plore the governance effects of centralized(official media)and decentralized(opinion leaders)control strategies.[Result/conclusion]A series of simulation experiments conducted through the Agent-based Modeling approach showed that both official media and opin-ion leader rumor control strategies have their respective applicable scopes. The official media control strategy is more effective in con-trolling online rumors, while the opinion leader control strategy is more suitable for rumors that have not been addressed by official me-dia.Under specific conditions, decreasing the official media control threshold is more effective than increasing the number of official media in governance.[Innovation/limitation]A double-layer coupled network is constructed based on the transmission channel, and two control strategies are discussed on this basis. There is room for further improvement in the complexity of the constructed model, and the selection of target individuals in the control strategy is not accurate enough.
