The misuse of driving conditions during car operation leads to abnormal impact loads on the chassis. In order to avoid the occurrence of serious vehicle safety accidents caused by the fracture of the chassis structural parts when encountering the impact load,it is necessary to evaluate the ability of the structural parts to resist the impact load, especially when the ball pin as the connecting unit of the chassis structural parts is not allowed to break. To evaluate the impact load resistance,on the one hand,it is necessary to adopt the method of drop weight impact test.On the other hand,it is also necessary to carry out simulation research for virtual analysis and predict the effect of impact load resistance design in advance. In the simulation, the explicit analysis function of Abaqus was used, and the Johnson-Cook Damage parameters were used to obtain the plastic deformation of the ball pin under different impact energies by increasing the height until the ball pin was broken. At the same time, the drop weight impact test was carried out,and the the simulation and the test were compared by the same height setting, and the results were basically consistent, which provided a feasible way for the positive design of the impact load resistance of ball pins.
