The debate between"alienated needs"and"false needs"——a study based on contemporary China's needs
Both Marx and Marcuse have made their own in-depth discussions on needs. However,if combined with the actual situation in China, deep differences in the context of the two theories can be found.Based on the theory of"false needs"of a one-dimensional society,Marcuse does not have the strength and theoretical legitimacy to explain the current China where there are still major contradictions such as regional imbalance in development. While Marx's theory of"alienated needs"based on private ownership is still an appropriate theoretical approach with the goal of alienation and abandonment. The theory of"alienated needs"includes three important aspects:instrumentalization, materialization and simplification. From this perspective,we can deeply analyze and try to solve the problems of"materialization of evaluation criteria","excessive waste of resources"and"lack of spiritual power driven by the fist rich"in China from the perspective of needs.
