Research on the mechanism, effect and optimization path of digital economy empowering carbon emission reduction——a case study of Shandong Province
Based on panel data from 16 prefecture-level cities in Shandong Province from 2011 to 2021,this study employs fixed effect models, mediation effect models, and spatial econometric models to systematically explore the impact and mechanisms of the digital economy on carbon emissions. The findings show that:First, the digital economy can directly contribute to a reduction in urban carbon emissions.Second, industrial structure upgrading and technological innovation are key pathways through which the digital economy empowers carbon reduction.Third, the digital economy has a spatial spillover effect on carbon emissions in Shandong Province. While promoting local carbon reduction,it also positively influences carbon reduction in neighboring cities.Fourth, the effects of control variables on carbon emissions vary.To fully leverage the carbon reduction potential of the digital economy,it is crucial to explore regional comparative advantages, advance the upgrades of industrial structure, highlight the leading role of key cities in driving carbon reduction, and strengthen the coordination of supportive measures.
