Content of Major Elements and Iron Isotopic Compositions in Different Fractions of Jiaozhou Bay Sediments
Sediments are the products influenced by multiple factors(such as,provenance, depositional environment, and biogenic process),different elements enter sediments in dif-ferent ways, resulting in their occurrence in different fractions.By studying the elements a-bundance and isotopic compositions of sediments,it can reveal biology, physical and chemi-cal information obscured by the mixing of various processes. In this study, the sediments of Jiaozhou Bay were fractionally extracted, including carbonate combined fraction, easily re-ducible oxide fraction, reducible oxide fraction, magnetite fraction and residual fraction. The results of element content in different fractions show that the major elements are mainly present in the residual fraction, but Ca,Fe,Mg,Mn and P are present in the non-residual fractions to varying degrees.Combined with the common mineral compositions in the sedi-ments of Jiaozhou Bay,in addition to the target mineral compositions of different fractions introduced in previous studies,it is speculated that the potential minerals in the easily reduc-ible oxide fraction may include monazite and apatite. The potential minerals in the reducible oxide fraction may include limonite. The potential minerals in the magnetite fraction may in-clude ilmenite. Some silicate minerals also exist in easily reducible oxide fraction and reduci-ble oxide fraction. The residual fraction is enriched with heavy iron isotope, inheriting the characteristics of the provenance area, and the iron isotope of the total fraction is mainly con-trolled by the residual fraction. The iron isotope of the active iron fraction is affected by the non-terrestrial compositions.
