Comparative Study on the Activity of Chamomile Essential Oil in Vitro
The aim of this study was to compare the antiallergic, whitening, antibacterial and effects on cell viability and migration of Roman chamomile essential oils and German chamo-mile essential oils in vitro. The in vitro antiallergic activity was evaluated by measuring the inhibition rate of hyaluronidase. The in vitro whitening activity was evaluated by measuring tyrosinase inhibition rate. The inhibitory effects of essential oil on Staphylococcus aureus,Staphylococcus epidermidis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were determined by bacteriostatic zone method. The viability of Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cells(HUVEC)and Hu-man Skin Fibroblast(HSF)was measured by MTT assay.Cell migration was detected by cell scratches assay. The results showed that the two essential oils could significantly inhibit the activities of hyaluronidase and tyrosinase, and had whitening and anti-allergic activities with a dose-dependent relationship.Chamomile essential oil can be used in the preparation of whitening and soothing cosmetics, and the effect of Roman chamomile essential oil is better than that of German chamomile essential oil.At the same time, the two essential oils can in-hibit Staphylococcus aureus,Staphylococcus epidermidis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa to varying degrees, and German chamomile essential oil has stronger antibacterial effect than Roman chamomile essential oil.The two essential oils significantly increased HUVEC and HSF cell viability and promoted cell migration in a dose-dependent manner.Chamomile es-sential oil can be used to promote wound healing,of which German chamomile essential oil is superior to Roman chamomile.German chamomile essential oil and Roman chamomile es-sential oil have anti-allergy,whitening,antibacterial activity and promote wound healing.Different essential oils can be selected according to different application and development purposes.
