Study on the performance of concrete mixed with eolian sand in coastal areas
Eolian sand is usually seen in deserts and also found in coastal areas with continu-ous strong winds. To mitigate the current shortage of engineering sand and make full use of the hidden economic value of eolian sand, this study takes the eolian sand of Pingtan Island of Fujian Province as the research subject and produces concrete by using the mixture of eoli-an sand and ordinary river sand under different mixture ratios(0%,10%,20%,30%,40%,and 50%)as the fine aggregate. The effects of different water-cement ratio and differ-ent ratio of aeolian sand on the mechanical strength and workability of the concrete are stud-ied.Based on the test,it is found that the appropriate adding of aeolian sand can improve the aggregate grading of the concrete and increase its density, workability and compressive strength. It is suggested that 20%~30%eolian sand should be used to replace the river sand to obtain a better performance.
