A Study on Lin Yutang's Self-translation:A Theoretical Perspective of Transcreation:A case study of"The Little Critic:The Bilingual Essays"of Lin Yutang
Based on the theory of"transcreation",this paper makes a systematic investigation of Lin Yutang's self-translation in"The Little Critic:The Bilingual Essays of Lin Yutang",explores the overall strategy of Lin Yutang's self-translation,and makes clear the specific translation techniques he uses the relationship between self-translation and"transcreation".The paper proposes the following three points:Firstly,in both of self-translation and"transcreation",translators enjoy more freedom and creativity than ordinary translators;Secondly,"rewriting"is the overall strategy adopted by Lin Yutang in his self-translation,mainly including paraphrase, expansion and omission which are mapping with the characteristics of"transcreation".Thirdly,self-translation and"transcreation"are mutually dependent and complementary."Transcreation"can provide theoretical guidance for self-translation,while self-translation is a type of"transcreation".This study can expand the space of Lin Yutang's research and enrich"transcreation"theory.
