Investigation on the Content and Methods of College English Teaching from the Perspective of Needs Analysis:A Case Study of Kaili University
From the perspective of needs analysis,this study conducted a three-semester investigation on the target situations and current situations of students learning college English at Kaili University through questionnaires,classroom observations,and interviews.The former includes aspects such as the purpose,goals,key points of learning college English,and key points that teachers need to teach.The latter includes attitudes towards learning,foundational knowledge,difficulties encountered,favor-ite learning methods,teaching methods,and extracurricular English study time.The results show:(1)The purpose of students learning college English is to improve their internal English proficiency and to help with future career development;learning goals include enhancing English application abili-ty,mastering learning methods,and improving overall quality;learning focus aligns with the key points that teachers need to teach.(2)The majority of students have weak foundations in English learning,and difficulties include vocabulary,pronunciation,grammar,and relevant cultural knowl-edge,but they spend relatively little time on extracurricular English study;their favorite learning and teaching methods are teacher-led instruction and discussion;there is a demand for more teacher-student communication and the application of English knowledge in the classroom.These findings may properly provide practical basis for the reform of college English teaching content and methods in local undergraduate colleges in Southwest ethnic areas.
