Objective To investigate the sedative effect of acupuncture on patients with nonorganic insomnia, and to compare the difference between entropy index and bispectral index(BIS)in monitoring the sedative effect of acupuncture.Me-thods A total of 30 volunteers with nonorganic insomnia were enrolled as observation group, and 30 healthy volunteers without sleep problems were enrolled as control group. The same protocol was used for the two groups, and both groups had to go through the resting state and the sedative state. From the resting state to the sedative state,BIS,state entropy(SE),response entropy(RE),and Observer's Assessment of Alertness/Sedation(OAA/S)score were recorded every 2.5 min,and the time from needle retention to sedation was recorded. Results Compared with the control group, the observation group entered the sedative state earlier. When the sedative state was reached,RE decreased earlier than BIS and SE.Comparedwith the control groupafter entering the sedative state, the observation group had significantly lower SE and RE(F=8.967-56.787,F'=10.780-21.833,P<0.05).Conclusion Acupuncture achieves sedation more quickly in patients with nonorganic insomnia, and the sedative effect can be eva-luated by entropy index and BIS,while RE is more time-sensitive in predicting sedation.
