Objective To investigate the expression and potential role of miRNA-137 and its target cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2)in lichen planus(LP).Methods Quantitative real-time PCR was used to measure the expression of miRNA-137 in skin lesion tissue of 40 patients with LP,and 35 cases of normal skin tissue were selected as the control group.ELISA was used to measure the expression level of COX-2 in LP tissue and normal skin tissue. Results Compared with normal skin tissue, there was a signifi-cant increase in the expression level of COX-2 in LP tissue(t=2.163,P=0.034)and a significant reduction in the expression level of miRNA-137(t=2.122,P=0.037).The Spearman's rank correlation analysis showed that the expression of miRNA-137 was negatively correlated with that of COX-2 in LP tissue(r=-0.244,P=0.035).Conclusion The downregulated expression of miRNA-137 leads to the upregulated expression of its target protein COX-2,which may play an important role in the pathogenesis of LP,and miRNA-137 may become a potential tool for molecular therapy in LP.
