Objective To investigate soil borne nematode infection status in Laoshan District,Qingdao City,China,2023,and to provide a basis for formulating soil borne nematode disease prevention and control strategies. Methods From February to March 2023,the improved Kato thick smear method(two tests for one fecal sample)was used to examine and count the eggs of soil borne nematodes(roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, and pinworms)in the fecal samples from 1 000 permanent residents aged 3 years or older in five administrative villages of Laoshan District.Children aged 3 to 9 years were also tested for pinworm eggs using the transparent adhesive paper anal swab method. Results The infection rate of soil borne nematodes in the population of Laoshan District was 0.30%,with all cases being whipworm infections. All of the infected individuals were rural residents, had an education level of junior high school, and were aged 50 years or older. The infection rate of farmers was higher than other profes-sions(P=0.032).The 153 children tested with the anal swab method were negative for pinworm eggs. Conclusion In 2023,the overall infection rate of soil borne nematodes in Laoshan District is relatively low, with elderly individuals identified as the key target group for prevention and control efforts.More targeted prevention and control measures need to be formulated according to local conditions to promote the control of soil borne nematode diseases.
