State Presence and Local Society Constructionin in Late Qing Dynasty——A Case Study of"Wan-Shi-Yong-Lai"in Sanqiao Jingzhou
The events documented on the"Wan-Shi-Yong-Lai"stone tablet in Niu-Jin-Ling Kuan-Chang,located in the San-Qiao area of Jingzhou,have had a profound and enduring impact on the local society.This paper aims at analyzing the institutional mechanisms employed by local organizations in San-Qiao for allocating livelihood resources,drawing upon inscriptions from the stone tablet as well as local historical documents and fieldwork materials.Furthermore,it elucidates the imperative for national intervention in social management within San-Qiao during the late Qing dynasty.Simultaneously,this paper explores how such interventions contributed to strengthening the consciousness of Chinese national community in this region and examines their contemporary value and significance.
