Aligning with broader shifts in the anthropological understanding of space,Chinese anthropology has increasingly emphasized transregional connections and networks in its study of China's borderlands.Prominent examples of this trend include ethnic corridor studies,river basin studies,roadology and port anthropology.This article argues that Latour's actor-network theory provides valuable insights for reconceptualizing border regions as dynamic assemblages shaped by the interplay of human and nonhuman actors,as demonstrated in the recent anthropological studies of the US-Mexico border.
