Study of Vessel Collision Resistance of Changtai Changjiang River Bridge and Safety Evaluation
This paper studies the vessel collision resistance of Changtai Changjiang River Bridge and presents the safety evaluations of the bridge. The unit load method was used to calculate the vessel collision resistance of different in-water components of the bridge and figure out vessel collision damage control modes.Based on numerical models, the collision probabilities of all the piers were calculated, the vessel collision risk was rated, and the vessel collision forces acquired by the empirical formulas and numerical simulation were compared,to determine the collision forces on the in-water components by the test vessels. The safety of the bridge was evaluated with the vessel collision safety factor and actual resistances of the piers. As per the analysis, the vessel collision damage modes of piers No.1 to No.4 are governed by the shear strength of the collision cross-section,while those of piers No.5 and No.6 were controlled by the vertical load bearing capacity of the foundation subgrade.Calculated with the current vessel traffic data, the bridge would experience 1.58 collisions per year, lower than those of the bridges of equal navigation capacity, and the collision is controllable, indicating the effective span arrangement and navigation channel planning. The vessel collision safety factors of the in-water components are between 1.10 and 6.54,and the actual collision resistances of the in-water components are larger than the tonnage of test vessels, and the vessel collision resistances of the in-water components of the Changtai Changjiang River Bridge meet the requirements.
