PREOPERATIVE NEUTROPHIL-LYMPHOCYTE RATIO: ITS VALUE IN PREDICTING PROGNOSIS OF PATIENTS WITH UPPER URINARY TRACT UROTHELIAL CARCINOMA
Objective To assess the value of preoperative peripheral blood neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in predicting the prognosis of patients with upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma (UUTUC).Methods Clinical data of 105 patients with UUTUC treated by surgery were retrospectively reviewed. The association of NLR with clinicopathological features was analyzed. The differences in cancer-specific survival (CSS) rate and recurrence-free survival (RFS) rate between high-NLR and lowNLR groups were compared.A survival analysis was conducted using Kaplan-Meier method and Log-rank test.An independent risk factor analysis was conducted using Cox proportional-hazards regression model. Results Pathological T staging was higher in patients with high preoperative NLR (NLR ≥1.90) than that in patients with low NLR (NLR<1.90),the difference was significant (x2=8.181,P <0.05).In low N LR group, the CSS and RFS rates were higher than that in the high-NLR group (x2 =11.591,18.205;P<0.05).Pathological T staging and preoperative NLR were the independent risk factors for CSS and RFS (OR =0.095-0.266,P<0.05).Conclusion The preoperative neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio is an independent risk factor for the prognosis of patients with upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma,it can be used to predict the prognosis of patients with this malignancy. The prognosis of patients with preoperative NLR ≥1.90 is poor.
