THE EFFECT OF NEW FORMS OF HEALTH EDUCATION ON QUALITY OF LIFE IN SENIOR OSTEOPOROSIS PATIENTS
Objective To explore the effect of new forms of health education in this electronic information age on quality of life in elderly patients with osteoporosis.Methods This study consisted of 120 elderly osteoporosis patients selected from a community of Qingdao,who were divided into two groups with 60 in each group in random.Patients in the control group received conventional community management,and those in the intervention group received osteoporosis-related health knowledge education,medication and outdoor activities reminder through WeChat electronic platform in addition to conventional community management.Before and after intervention for 12 months,osteoporosis knowledge test (OKT) and USAMOS SF-36 were used to evaluate the patients' knowledge of osteoporosis,and the changes of physiology and psychology in both groups.Results Before intervention,the differences in general conditions and OKT score between the two groups were not significant (P>0.05),in SF 36,only the difference in RE score was significant (t =2.112,P<0.05).After intervention,the O)KT score in the intervention group was higher than that before intervention (t =-16.500,P <0.01).After intervention,the differences in score of quality of life,and scores in physiological function (PF),body pain (BP),general health (GH),vitality (VT) and social function (SF)-in SF-36 scale-between the two groups were significant (t =1.997-9.524,P<0.05).Conclusion Health education and monitoring of senior patients with osteoporosis in community through WeChat platform can raise their cognitive ability of the disease and improve their quality of life.
