EFFECTS OF SMOFLIPID ON POSTOPERATIVE RECOVERY OF ELDERLY PATIENTS WITH GASTROINTESTINAL CANCER
Objective To investigate the effects of SMOFlipid (a mixed lipid emulsion containing 30% soybean oil,30% medium chain triglyceride,25 % olive oil,and 15 % fish oil) on postoperative recovery of elderly patients with gastrointestinal cancer. Methods A total of 55 elderly patients who required at least 5 d of parenteral nutrition support after gastrointestinal operation were randomly divided into study group and control group. The two groups were given isocaloric standard nutrition support. The control group was given 200 g/L medium-and long-chain lipid emulsion, while the study group was given SMOFlipid. The fasting blood samples were collected from the patients in the two groups to determine the biochemical, inflammatory, and immune parameters before and after operation. Results At 6 days after operation, the study group had significantly higher levels of CD3+,CD4+,IgG,IgA,and total protein and significantly lower level of C-reactive protein and white blood cell count than the control group (t=2.35-4.46,P<0.05;t=4.23,4.55;P<0.05).Conclusion For elderly patients with gastrointestinal cancer,SMOFlipid can significantly improve postoperative immune status and inhibit excessive inflammation,so it is beneficial to improve postoperative status of patients.
