ANALGESIC EFFECT OF ICE-WATER MIXTURE VERSUS TRADITIONAL ICE PACKS AFTER KNEE ARTHROSCOPY
Objective To compare the analgesic effects of ice-water mixture and traditional ice packs after knee arthroscopy. Methods Fifty-four patients who underwent knee arthroscopy alone in Department of Joint Surgery in Qingdao Hiser Hospital from October 2015 to June 2016 were randomly divided into group A and group B.Group A received ice-water mixture for analgesia with 20 minutes each time and an interval of 2 h,while group B received traditional ice packs instead.Pain was evaluated using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) at 2,6,12,24,48,and 72 h after surgery. Results Group A had significantly lower VAS scores than group B at 12,24,48,and 72 h after surgery (F=8.739-41.024,P<0.05).Conclusion Ice-water mixture has a better analgesic effect than traditional ice packs after knee arthroscopy.
