ANALYSIS OF HOSPITAL BED UTILIZATION EFFICIENCY IN CLINICAL DEPARTMENTS IN A TERTIARY GENERAL HOSPITAL
Objective To analyze the hospital bed utilization efficiency in clinical departments in a tertiary general hospital in 2016,and to provide a scientific and rational basis for the performance appraisal and internal medical resources allocation. Methods The TOPSIS (Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) method was used and the appropriate indicators were selected to evaluate the hospital bed utilization efficiency in clinical departments. Results There was a significant difference in hospital bed utilization efficiency between different departments. The hospital beds were in shortage and overload operation in nine clinical departments, such as obstetric department, department of breast disease diagnosis and treatment, and ophtalmology department. And some hospital beds were in idle and the utilization efficiency was not high in nine departments, such as dermatological department, medical cosmetology department, and medical care department, resulting in waste of medical resources. Conclusion The TOPSIS method can be used to evaluate hospital bed utilization efficiency in clinical departments to provide a basis for making reasonable adjustments of hospital beds and improving hospital bed utilization efficiency.
