CLINICAL VALUE OF VIDEO-ASSISTED THORACOSCOPIC SURGERY IN TREATMENT OF PENETRATING THORACIC TRAUMA
Objective To investigate the clinical value of video assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) in the treatment of penetrating thoracic trauma. Methods A retrospective analysis was performed for the clinical data of 162 patients with penetrating thoracic trauma, among whom 84 underwent VATS (observation group) and 78 underwent open surgery (control group). The two groups were compared in terms of time of operation, postoperative drainage volume, duration of postoperative bed rest, and incidence rate of pulmonary infection. Results The observation group had a significantly shorter time of operation,a significantly lower postoperative drainage volume,a significantly shorter duration of postoperative bed rest, and a significantly lower incidence rate of pulmonary infection compared with the control group (t =2.13-3.07,x2 =44.68,P<0.05).Conclusion VATS has several advantages over conventional open surgery in the treatment of penetrating thoracic trauma and holds promise for clinical application.
