ONCOCYTIC MUCOEPIDERMOID CARCINOMA OF THE PAROTID GLAND: CLINICOPATHOLOGICAL STUDY OF A CASE AND LITERATURE REVIEW
Objective To investigate the clinicopathological features, diagnosis, and differential diagnosis of oncocytic mucoepidermoid carcinoma (OMEC) of the parotid gland, and to raise the awareness of this disease. Methods The histopathological features and immunohistochemical features of one patient with OMEC of the parotid gland were summarized and related literature was reviewed. Results Microscopic observation showed that tumor cells mainly consisted of eosinophils and mucous cells and were arranged in an adenoid, cribriform,or nest-like shape. As for immunophenotype, tumor cells had positive CK,CK7,CK14,EMA,p63,and MUC5AC and negative CK20,S-100,SMA,and Vimentin. Conclusion OMEC is an extremely rare type of mucoepidermoid carcinoma, and a combination of clinicopathological features and immunohistochemical staining may help with its diagnosis and differential diagnosis.
