AN EPIDEMIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF BACILLARY DYSENTERY IN QINGDAO, CHINA, FROM 2005 TO 2015
Objective To investigate the epidemiological characteristics of bacillary dysentery in Qingdao,China, from 2005 to 2015,and to provide a scientific basis for the development of effective control strategies for bacillary dysentery. Methods The data of bacillary dysentery from 2005 to 2015 reported through Qingdao outbreak network were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results A total of 847 cases of bacillary dysentery were reported from 2005 to 2015,and the average incidence rate was 0.91/100 000.The annual incidence rate decreased from 1.97/100 000 in 2006 to 0.24/100 000 in 2015 (x2 =459.25,P<0.01).Bacillary dysentery occurred throughout the year and reached the peak from June to October, suggesting that bacillary dysentery was a seasonal disease. There were 493 male patients and 354 female patients.Bacillary dysentery was seen in all age groups and had a higher incidence rate in patients aged 0-4 years and 21-29 years.Bacillary dysentery might occur in people with different occupations and had the highest incidence rate in scattered children (4.17/100 000) and workers (0.96/100 000).Conclusion The incidence rate of bacillary dysentery in Qingdao tends to decrease from 2005 to 2015,but since the incidence rate of bacillary dysentery maintains at a certain level, its prevention and treatment cannot be ignored and disease monitoring and control should be enhanced.
