EXPRESSION OF LIVER-INTESTINE CADHERIN IN COLORECTAL CANCER TISSUE AND ITS CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE
Objective To investigate the expression of liver-intestine cadherin CDH17 in colorectal cancer (CRC) and its prognostic significance. Methods A total of 63 patients with CRC who were admitted to our hospital from February 2010 to June 2013 were enrolled;colonoscopic biopsy was performed for CRC tissue samples, and a confirmed diagnosis was made by pa thological examination.Corresponding normal adjacent tissue samples were collected from 30 patients, who were randomly selected from these 63 patients, and used as controls. The immunohistochemical SP method was used to measure the expression of CDH17 in CRC tissue samples and normal adjacent tissue samples. The association of the expression of CDH17 with clinicopathological fea tures of CRC patients was analyzed, and the influencing factors for the prognosis of CRC patients were identified. Results The positive expression rate of CDH17 was 20.63% (13/63) in CRC tissue samples and 66.67% (20/30) in normal adjacent tissue samples, and the CRC tissue samples had a significantly higher positive expression rate than the normal adjacent tissue samples (x2 =3.935,P <0.05).The expression of CDH 17 protein expression was closely associated with TNM stage, degree of tumor differentiation, and lymph node metastasis (x2 =3.285-3.716,P <0.05).The univariate and multivariate analyses showed that TNM stage, lymph node metastasis, and positive expression of CDH17 were independent prognostic factors for CRC patients. Conclusion CDH17 is highly expressed in CRC and is closely associated with TNM stage, degree of tumor differentiation, and lymph node metastasis.TNM stage, lymph node metastasis, and positive expression of CDH17 are independent prognostic factors for CRC patients.
