Research progress of multi-parameter MRI in predicting lymph node metastasis of rectal cancer
Objective We provided an overview of the research progress, limitations and future development trends of multi-parameter MRI(mpMRI)in predicting lymph nodes of rectal cancer. Methods Using the China National Knowl-edge Infrastructure(CNKI)database and PubMed retrieval system, relevant literature from 2017-01-01 to 2023-06-07 were retrieved with"MRI,multiparametric imaging, rectal cancer, lymph node metastasis"as keywords.Inclusion crite-ria:(1)Research related to lymph node metastasis in rectal cancer;(2)Research related to mpMRI imaging in lymph node metastasis.Exclusion criteria:(1)Conference literature, commentary literature,etc;(2)Literature with similar or repetitive content.Finally,61 articles were included for analysis. Results Compared to traditional computer-aided diag-nosis,mpMRI(contrast-enhanced MRI,diffusion weighted imaging/apparent diffusion coefficient,T2 weighted image)can provide doctors with more perspectives to observe lesions.Compared with a single CT image, the radiomics feature model based on mpMRI combined with clinical risk factors has better predictive performance for lymph node metastasis in rectal cancer. Conclusions mpMRI has great potential in predicting lymph node metastasis in rectal cancer.Combining radiomics features based on mpMRI and deep learning prediction model is one of its future research directions. In addi-tion,more mpMRI need to be developed to improve the prediction of preoperative lymph node status in rectal cancer pa-tients,assist physicians in making the best diagnosis, and make personalized treatment possible for patients.
