Analysis of cervical cancer screening project results in Shandong Province 2022
Objective To investigate the detection rates of cervical cancer and precancerous lesions among women aged 35-64 in Shandong Province in 2022,providing evidence for the implementation of free screening programs and the achieve-ment of cervical cancer eradication targets. Methods This study is based on the cervical cancer screening program provid-ed free of charge by Shandong Province in 2022,focusing on women who participated in the screening between January 1,2022,and December 31,2022.Data were aggregated by the Shandong Provincial Maternal and Child Health Hospital, sourced from quarterly reports submitted by maternal and child health institutions across the various counties(cities,dis-tricts).These reports included results from cervical cytology using the Bethesda System(TBS)and cervical pathology ex-aminations.This research involved a statistical analysis of the screening data and the creation of a map depicting the detec-tion rates of cervical cancer and its precancerous lesions across different cities. Results The study included 2 887 279 women who participated in the free cervical cancer screening program in Shandong Province. The results indicated a cervi-cal cancer detection rate of 14.75 per 100 000(426/2 887 279)and a precancerous lesion detection rate of 484.89 per 100 000(14 000/2 887 279).TBS cervical cytology results showed an overall abnormal detection rate of 3.27%(94 342/2 887 279)within the province, with the highest incidence of atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance(ASC-US)at 2.34%(67 618/2 887 279).Weihai City had the highest rate of abnormal cervical cytology findings at 4.57%(1 196/26 158),while Dongying City had the highest colposcopy abnormality rate at 71.28%(995/1 396).Conclusions The cervical cancer screening program in Shandong Province achieved significant results in 2022.However,there is still a need to continue promoting cervical cancer screening efforts, enhance the dissemination of knowledge about cervical cancer pre-vention,expand the scope of screening coverage, and encourage age-appropriate women to receive the HPV vaccine.Fu-ture strategies should further explore approaches tailored to China's national conditions in order to reduce the incidence and mortality rates of cervical cancer, thereby improving women's quality of life.
