Analysis of the core knowledge awareness rate of cancer prevention and control in Henan Province in 2021
Objective To investigate the current awareness of core cancer prevention and control knowledge among resi-dents in Henan Province,identify the weakness in cancer prevention and control knowledge,conduct an initial analysis of factors influencing the attainment of the awareness rate of core cancer prevention and control knowledge,and provide a sci-entific basis for further improving the awareness rate of core cancer prevention and control knowledge.Methods From June to September 2021,a convenience sampling method was employed to select urban and rural residents aged 15 to 85 years old in Zhengzhou,Luoyang,Anyang,Xinxiang,Jiaozuo,Nanyang,and Zhumadian cities in Henan Province as survey subjects.Face-to-face interviews were conducted using the"Core Cancer Prevention and Control Knowledge Awareness Survey Questionnaire"developed by the National Cancer Center.The awareness rate of core cancer prevention and control knowledge was calculated for the overall study population and for subgroups based on different characteristics.Chi-square tests were used to compare the awareness rates among groups with different characteristics.Factors influencing the attain-ment of the awareness rate of core cancer prevention and control knowledge were analyzed using both univariate and multi-variate logistic regression.Results A total of 2 976 valid questionnaires were collected for this survey,representing a re-sponse rate of 97.22％.The awareness rate of core cancer prevention and control knowledge in Henan Province was 74.23％(95％CI:73.97％-74.49％).The awareness rates for cancer management literacy,early diagnosis and treatment literacy,and cancer prevention literacy were all above 70％.However,the awareness rate for cancer cognitive literacy stood at 70.52％(95％CI:69.97％-71.07％),which was at the boundary of the target value.The awareness rate for cancer recovery literacy was below the target value at 64.78％(95％CI:63.78％-65.78％).The results of multifactorial analy-sis indicated that having a college degree(OR=2.52,95％CI:1.36-4.62,P=0.003),having a bachelor's degree or high-er(OR=3.31,95％CI:1.68-6.49,P＜0.001),working as a commercial retailer(OR=1.57,95％CI:1.13-2.17,P=0.007),being retired(OR=1.49,95％CI:1.03-2.17,P=0.034),and working in the medical field(OR=4.51,95％CI:2.68-7.91,P＜0.001)were favorable factors for achieving the awareness rate of core knowledge on cancer prevention and treatment.Conversely,having no family history of cancer(OR=0.61,95％CI:0.48-0.77,P＜0.001)or unclear family history of cancer(OR=0.42,95％CI:0.30-0.59,P＜0.001),as well as obesity(OR=0.73,95％CI:0.54-0.98,P=0.035)were unfavorable factors for achieving the awareness rate of core knowledge on cancer prevention and treatment.Conclusion The awareness rate of cancer prevention and control core knowledge in Henan Province has reached the expected requirement of 70％in 2022 in the Healthy China Action(2019-2030),but it is at a moderate level.In the future,health education on core knowledge of cancer prevention and control in Henan Province should be widely carried out among the entire population,improving the general public's understanding of core knowledge of cancer preven-tion and control,and focusing on promoting and educating the weak areas of core knowledge of cancer prevention and con-trol in the population.
