Advances in the relationship between S100 family proteins and non-small cell lung cancer
Objective To summarise the biological properties of the S100 family of calcium-binding proteins, and to explore their expression and mechanism of action in non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC),as well as their application in the diagno-sis,treatment and prognosis of NSCLC.Methods With"S100,non-small cell lung cancer, mechanism of action, diagnosis, prognosis"as the keywords,a systematic search of the PubMed and CNKI databases was conducted for relevant literature published from January 1,2005 to July 1,2023.Inclusion criteria:(1)Biological characteristics and functions of S100 pro-teins;(2)The impact of regulating S100 protein expression on lung cancer cells;(3)The influence of S100 protein expres-sion levels on the efficacy and prognosis of lung cancer patients.Exclusion criteria:(1)Literature with incomplete data.(2)Literature with duplicated results.(3)Literature with low relevance to this study.Finally,52 eligible articles were in-cluded.Results Among numerous S100 protein families,S100A2,S100A4,S100A7,S100A8/A9,S100A13,and S100P are upregulated in NSCLC and have a pro cancer effect. They are closely related to higher malignancy, susceptibility to recur-rence and metastasis, and poor prognosis. Conclusion The S100 protein family is closely related to the occurrence and de-velopment of lung cancer, and can provide new ideas for the diagnosis and treatment of NSCLC.
