The role of Radiomics in predicting lymph node metastasis in non-small cell lung cancer
Objective To comprehensively review and summarize the progress of radiomics-based applications in predicting lymph node metastasis in non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC)and to provide directions for future clinical applications and research. Methods Pubmed and Chinese National knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI)database literature search system were used to search the relevant literature from January 1,2019,to November 1,2023 with the keywords of"non-small cell lung cancer, radiomics, lymph node metastasis".Inclusion criteria included radiomics research study related to predicting lymph node metastasis in NSCLC patients.Exclusion criteria were(1)literature with outdated date;(2)low-quality litera-ture.A total of 60 articles were included. Results As an emerging noninvasive technique, radiomics is becoming a hotspot for clinical applications and has great potential for predicting NSCLC lymph node metastasis.Radiomics models based on computed tomography(CT),positron emission tomography/computed tomography(PET/CT),magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)and PET/MRI have achieved partial results in the prediction of NSCLC lymph node metastasis with high sensitivity and specificity.Combining radiomics features with genetic, protein and metabolic information and clinical data can further improve the accuracy of lymph node metastasis prediction models. It is necessary to further standardize the process of data collection and analysis in the future,to promote the effective integration of radiomics technology with medical multidisci-plines,and to obtain stable output results through external validation of large samples,so as to provide a more reliable basis for the individualized and precise diagnosis and treatment of NSCLC patients. Conclusions Radiomics has shown u-nique advantages in predicting lymph node metastasis for NSCLC,but more prospective multicenter studies and standard-ized processes are needed to improve its generalization performance.
