Young Gay Men's Subjective Management and Coping Strategies towards Disagreements on Sexual Identity
The society holds disagreements on gay men's sexual identity.This study tries to put forward the theoretical perspective of"context-disagreement".Through the in-depth interviews with 15 young gay men,this article has the following findings:when handling disagreements towards their sexual identity from different groups including parents,close friends and familiar strangers,etc.these gay men would face risks from different contexts.Hence,they would adopt three different strategies in the management of sexual identity,namely"faking","concealing"and"turning from the guest into the host".This process could not only reflect the subjects'agency in structure,but also reflect the possibility of structural change.In the future,this possibility could provide more space for scholars to study Chinese gay groups.
