The Effect of Equal Division of Household Chores on Women's Fertility Intentions
Gender equity theory predicts that gender equality within the household contributes to fertility.This study examines the complex relationship and underlying mechanisms between the equal division of household chores and women's fertility intentions.By utilizing data from the China Family Panel Studies(CFPS)and employing Poisson regression and propensity score matching methods,the studly reveals that husbands'active participation in household chores significantly increases their wives'fertility intentions.This effect is particularly pronounced among women who lack parental housework or childcare support,as well as among highly educated,husband has higher income,and urban women.The findings support gender equity theory and underscore the importance of providing support for women of childbearing age and their families to promote fertility.
