Imagined Connection:A Conceptual Exploration of the Fundamental Logic of Telecommunications Infrastructure in International Communication
The deep integration of telecommunications infrastructure-based networks and digital space is becoming a new platform for geopolitical competition among countries. This paper employs a political economy of communication perspective to delve into the intricate interplay between telecommu-nications infrastructure and its foundational components of technology, capital, and influence on a meso-level.This exploration is facilitated through a dialogue with empirical evidence, aiming to unveil the concealed international communication dynamics embodied in both its material aspects and Sociality. The study argues that,(1)The market participation of telecommunications infrastructure technology and its inherent public attributes place it in the middle ground of political and capital flows, making it an essential factor in participating in information communication services and constructing international communication order.(2)The operation of telecommu-nications infrastructure encompasses two distinct capital logics, characterized by hegemony and ascension, within the diverse landscapes of the North-South divide, affecting the reproduction of international communication orders through the influence of deficit capital in the globalization development.(3)The power game constructs the path of technological advancement, concealing the hierarchical disparities and inequalities within the competitive landscape of technology.
