The Time Landscape of News Production on Short Video Platforms
This article takes the time landscape theory as the starting point and adopts empirical research methods to demonstrate and analyze the time landscape and its cultural effects by the interface, algorithm, and news content of short video platforms. It was found that:firstly, short video platforms shape a continuous time landscape through technological interfaces and discourse forms, weakening users'time perception in viewing practice. The collusion of technology and capital allows users to fall into deeper time alienation;Secondly, driven by algorithms, the production and consumption of short videos form an accelerated closed-loop,which is intertwined with the value-added gears of capital;Thirdly, the platform shapes the temporal forms of present moment and point like, with the rich and continuous temporality being emptied out,and boredom filling the gaps in time.By analyzing the temporal landscape of news production on short video platforms,we can not only glimpse the changes in the temporal logic of the digital capital era,but also help us re-examine the hidden power relationships between capital, technology, platforms, and people.
