The Effects of Social Distance and Form of Information Presentation on Seniors'Trust in Health-related Rumor-Refuting Messages
Based on Construal Level Theory, this study experimentally examined the influence of social psychological distance and the form of information presentation and their combined effects on seniors'trust in health-related rumor-refuting messages. It further explores the mediating role of information processing mode in this process. The hypotheses testing social psychological distance, form of information presentation, and their optimized match as predictors of seniors'trust in health-related rumor-refuting messages, were not confirmed. However, systematic information processing fully mediated the effect of the match of social psychological distance and construal level of information presentation on cognitive trust, whereas the mediating role of heuristic information processing on the effect of the match of social psychological distance and construal level of information presentation on affective trust was not significant.
