Eyes of Zapata,is narrated by Inés who is the mistress of Emiliano Zapata,a revolutionary leader of peasants and in-digenous people during the Mexican Revolution.With the main focus on Inés's emotional entanglements with Zapata and her great suf-fering during the revolution,the story gives voice to the female subjects who have been deprived of voices in traditional historical narra-tives.Through the vehicle of literary imagination,Cisneros attempts to deconstruct and simultaneously reconstruct the images of those historical figures,thus achieving a more truthful and accessible reproduction of the historical event.By presenting Inés as the narrator,Cisneros casts deep insight into the patriarchal ideology that shrouds the mainstream narratives and re-discovers the deep generating forces that led to the revolution.
