William Leiss believes that the idea of controlling nature is the root of the ideology of technological alienation,and the capitalist application of technology and the instrumental nature of technology are the deep causes of technological alienation.Under the capitalist mode of production,the abuse of technology leads to human alienation,the loss of ecological ethics and the strengthening of technological control over human,nature and society.Then,we must re-understand the concept of controlling nature and technological reason,abandon the instrumental nature of technology,and build a more survivable society on the basis of overthrowing capitalism.The positive significance of Leiss's thought of technological alienation lies in that the technological theory based on Marx reveals the purport of seeking profit maximization of capitalism and criticizes the anti-ecological nature of capitalism.However,he attributed the control of technology over human and nature to an ethical and moral issue,and did not put technology into the field of production practice to study it.He attempted to solve the problem of technological alienation by establishing a society that was easy to live,which was difficult in practice.
