While writing about the complex interpersonal relationships among intellectuals in New York City,and portraying the hypocrisy and glitz of the cultural circle,The Emperor's Childrenrepeatedly depicts typical non-places,expressing the absurdity and meaninglessness of the urban life of cultural elites.The city consumes their enchantment with its overwhelming and perplexing urban chaos,but there exist awakened intellectuals.The author intends to use 9/11 to stimulate intellectuals who demystifies their identities,like flâneurs,to examine the ills and cries of modernity surrounded by the urban spectacles,and to construct them by finding an exit from the city.Taking Bootie as a clue and analyzing the image of the city from the perspective of urbanization representation,the novel delves into the spiritual decline of intellectuals dominated by the city,and explores their urban experience in-depth,which gives deeper social significance to their image.
