The Analysis of the Subjectivity of Echo Questions
Echo questions are a special subtype of interrogative questions, which enquire about the content of their previous dis-course(leading sentence). This article takes echo questions as the research object and explores the reflection of the speaker's subjec-tivity in language. It's found that the subjectivity of echo questions is mainly reflected in the cognitive subject's construal of its leading sentence and the expression of the speaker's emotional attitude through echo questions. When construing, the cognitive subject proces-ses the content of the leading sentence in terms of specificity, focus, perspective, and prominence, and then generates a"skeptical"emo-tional attitude, finally forming echo questions.Later, intersubjectivity is achieved through turns to fulfill mutual understanding between interlocutors, leading to the resolution of the"skeptical"emotional attitude.
