A Cognitive Translation Study on the Conceptual Metaphors in the Report on the Work of the Government
The government work report is an authoritative and representative publicity document,which is rich in metaphors with distinctive Chinese characteristics.An in-depth understanding of metaphor is not only conducive to the meaning construction of the o-riginal discourse information,but also benefit to the construction of the foreign discourse system with Chinese characteristics.Through the investigation of the distribution of metaphors and their English translation strategies in the Report on the Work of the Government,it is found that main types of metaphors in this report are entity metaphors,architectural metaphors and journey metaphors.The literal translation method that retains the Chinese source domain structure can effectively convey Chinese cultural images,and its cognitive mo-tivation is the richness and diversity of the source domain in conceptual metaphors.
