Zhang Wentao,one of the most definitive poets during the reign of Qianlong and Jiaqing in Qing Dynasty,has met Shi Yunyu on the 54th year of Qianlong's reign,and began a friendship which lasted for 25 years in the like-minded basis.They are much alike in character,honest,upright and unflattering;in their official positions,they work diligently,never abuse their office and care a-bout the common people;they also exchanged ideas frequently in academy.Under the influence of Zhang Wentao's poetic thought,Shi Yunyu mainly used temperament to criticize poems.While advocating true temperament,Shi Yunyu promoted originality and opposed duplication and plagiarism.In addition,Shi Yunyu praised the"Gentle and honest"poetic tradition highly,not only emphasizing po-ems'function of satire and moral cultivation,but also highlighting poems'moderate and peaceful content and euphemistic style.His poetic thought corresponded to the trend of the poetry circle at that time.
